Storm Damage

During the recent storms, when winds exceeded 90mph, a finial was knocked off this church in Blackpool. The finial, upon hitting the roof, split into two. One piece of the stone finial landed inside the church organ, whilst the other piece landed in the aisle.

Luckily no-one was injured (although the organ needs retuning).

Michael Pooler Associates were called out to investigate the structural integrity of the remaining finials.

Sacred Heart SpirePhotograph 01 – The contrast between the finials can be seen in this photograph. A 2.5-3 metre section of the finial was snapped off by winds in excess of 90mph.
