At Bolton Waste Water Treatment Works Michael Pooler Associates were asked to design valve chambers which are to be used to shut off water flow beneath the River Irwell in case of emergency.  The whole process included the design of the valve chambers, bending bar schedules for steelwork reinforcement, and waterproof detailing.
